⚠️ IMPORTANT — READ BEFORE USING ChainSkins is an experimental alpha-stage software tool. By using this platform or browser extension, you acknowledge and accept all risks described herein. Do not use this service with funds you cannot afford to lose.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using ChainSkins (the "Service"), including the website at chainskins.net and the associated browser extension, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

These terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and the individual developer operating ChainSkins ("we", "us", "the Operator").

2. Nature of the Service

ChainSkins is a free, non-commercial software tool that facilitates peer-to-peer exchanges of CS2 in-game items using cryptocurrency smart contracts on the Solana blockchain. The Service is provided at no cost and the Operator does not charge any fees.

Key technical facts you must understand:

  • Non-custodial: Your private keys never leave your browser extension. The Operator does not have access to your keys or funds at any point.
  • Automated middleman: The Operator's backend acts as an automated third-party signer in a 2-of-3 multisignature scheme. This role is purely automated — it monitors Steam trade offer status and countersigns transactions accordingly. The Operator does not manually review or intervene in individual trades.
  • Smart contract execution: Once conditions are met on-chain, transactions execute automatically and are irreversible.

The Operator's automated signature is triggered solely by verifiable Steam trade offer state changes. No human discretion is exercised in individual transactions.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years of age (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction) to use the Service. By using ChainSkins, you represent and warrant that:

  • You are of legal age in your jurisdiction
  • Your use of the Service complies with all applicable laws in your country of residence
  • You are not located in a jurisdiction where cryptocurrency transactions are prohibited
  • You have sufficient technical knowledge to understand the risks of blockchain transactions

4. Risks — You Must Understand These

Using ChainSkins involves significant risks. You explicitly acknowledge:

  • Smart contract risk: Bugs or vulnerabilities in smart contracts may result in permanent loss of funds. Code has not been formally audited.
  • Blockchain risk: Transactions on Solana are irreversible. Errors cannot be undone.
  • Steam API dependency: The Service depends on Steam's API availability and behavior. Steam may change or revoke API access at any time.
  • Alpha software: This is early-stage software. Unexpected behavior, bugs, and downtime should be expected.
  • Cryptocurrency volatility: The value of USDC/USDT and other assets can change rapidly.
  • No insurance or recovery: Lost funds due to technical failures cannot be recovered by the Operator.
  • Counterparty risk: The Operator cannot guarantee the good faith of other users.

5. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Operator shall not be liable for:

  • Any loss of funds, cryptocurrency, or in-game items arising from use of the Service
  • Smart contract bugs, exploits, or failures
  • Downtime or unavailability of the Service or Steam API
  • Actions or omissions of other users
  • Any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied.

6. The Operator's Role as Automated Third Party

You explicitly acknowledge and agree that:

  • The Operator acts solely as an automated technical intermediary, not as a financial institution, exchange, broker, or custodian
  • The Operator's signing key is triggered by automated logic, not human judgment
  • The Operator does not hold, control, or have access to your funds or private keys at any time
  • The Operator's participation in the multisig scheme is a technical mechanism to verify Steam trade completion, not a guarantee of any outcome

7. Prohibited Uses

You agree not to use ChainSkins to:

  • Engage in money laundering, fraud, or any illegal activity
  • Circumvent Steam's Terms of Service
  • Attempt to exploit, hack, or disrupt the smart contracts or Service infrastructure
  • Impersonate other users or provide false information
  • Use the Service in any jurisdiction where doing so is prohibited

8. No Affiliation with Valve or Steam

ChainSkins is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or in any way officially connected to Valve Corporation or Steam. CS2 and Steam are trademarks of Valve Corporation. In-game items have no real-world monetary value according to Valve's Terms of Service.

9. Modifications and Termination

The Operator reserves the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service at any time without notice. These Terms may be updated periodically — continued use of the Service constitutes acceptance of any changes.
